UAEspirit.. a writer and poet.. where did it
all begin?
... years back when I
engraved my first words on the side of my desk while waiting
impatiently for the morning to come. They say poetry is when
an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found the
words... and for me I always found myself confused and lost in
my own emotions.. till I found my way out of it.. by writing
poetry. All of us are writers and poets.. but some of us live
the poetry we can't write in words. As they say.. to be a poet
is a condition, not a profession.
What or can we say who inspires you to unleash
all that passion in your writings and poems and inspires you
to do so..?
Inspiration never
arrives when you search for it, but it simply comes to you and
all the inspiration I ever needed was to live my life with all
its little moments. There is a great treasure of inspiration
in us all and that great treasure has the power to explode
from our hearts so many feels.. things our eyes can't see and
our minds can't understand.
When did you first start using the
internet?
In 1997, when my brother
introduced me to this world that I adored since then.
What skills/knowledge did you have
before starting your own 1st website? and How did you
gain the right skills/knowledge
afterwards?
I'm a self-taught in
this field, and I think I got so far because I really enjoyed
what I was doing and wanted to learn. My first web site was
built in geocities.com tools manager in a very simple format
no complicated HTML or FLASH was needed back then so all I
really needed was the ability to use the Internet. Afterwards,
I had to gain skills and knowledge in different HTML, Graphic
design and Flash programs which I learned either in school or
by myself.
What programs do you use in your
website?
The usual:
Adobe
Photoshop/Illustrator
CuteFtp
FrontPage
Flash
So tell us, what is the best thing about being a
web mistress? What things did you benefit from having your own
website?
Expressing who you
are.. in the words you choose and the images you decide to
reflect who you are is the best thing about being a web
mistress. We are all strangers here.. our names, our words and
the place we build to be our home is what makes us different
from each other. A website, is not just meaningless HTML
codes, its who we are here in this huge strange place and my
website gave me this chance to be who I am.. to express what I
feel and share it with so many people out there, people I
might never meet, but still gave them the chance to know who I
am.. even if it was through simple words.
You also have quite a talent with the graphics..
how did you manage to reach to that level? How did you
learn?
As you've seen in my
website, my graphics are pretty simple.. I depend mostly on
the image I choose to stand with the words I share. I learned
that through experimenting and with the help of some websites
and friends.
Any funny incidents, stories that happened to
you (as UAEspirit).. =P
*lol* so many incidents happened
and I believe one of them was with you Kitty, but let
me tell you about the most recent one. Where I work no one
knows that I'm UAEspirit, but so many of my coworkers visit my
website and talks about it most of the time. They talk about
my poetry and who is the person behind those words, they even
asked me if I got a copy of Whispers *grin*. I always
stayed quiet and never took part in their conversations. On
the day before New Year's my sister wanted to throw a birthday
surprise party for me in the office. At 12 noon I was in my
office checking my email peacefully, when all of a sudden the
door opened and my sister walked in carrying my birthday cake.
Surprisingly, all I can hear singing is my sister.. and the
rest of my friends were walking behind her... eyes wide open
in a big shock. I didn't knew what was going on till I
discovered that my birthday cake looked like the cover of my
book Whispers. Of course my sister had no idea of what
was going on * she thought everyone knew I'm Spirit*. To make
the long story short, my coworkers are still staring at me
till today not believing I'm UAEspirit.. and I still have a
long explanation to do to them!
You also helped a lot of people with their
websites, (I am one of the first ones =P) Can you tell us more
about that? What pushes you to help
others?
When I first used the
Internet I was amazed with all those great websites I've been
to, and I always wanted to have one for myself.. but I was a
stranger to this world and I had no idea of where or how to
begin. It took my a while to stand on my feet and learn so
many things on my own.. I'm proud that I did that all by
myself, but to be honest with you so many times I wished if
someone was there to help me even if it was for a simple
thing.. at least I would know that if I got stuck with
something someone would be there, but I was all alone. We are
all talented in our own ways, and its such a big shame not
being able to share those great talents with people out there
to see our work just because we don't have yet the necessary
skills to have our own websites. Although I might not
professional in websites... but I do my best to help my
friends or anyone who would need the first step to begin.
UAEspirit.. how did you come up with such a
nick? Any story behind it?
This might come as a
surprise, but the nick UAEspirit was actually named after my
eldest brother. When I first used the Internet my brother used
to study abroad and we chatted online a lot. He talked a lot
about how he missed us back home and how he wishes if he was
there with us and -being the poet I was- I used to tell him
"... its true you are not here, but your spirit is
with us all the time". Months after that, on his birthday
I wanted to send him and e-card.. but I didn't really liked
anything so I decided to write to him a poem that was called
"A poem to the UAE spirit" and designed a simple page for him
on the first website I ever made.. named after my brother.
As I
personally know you, you are an ocean of hidden talents and
which I frankly was surprised to know about. *mashAllah
3alaich* Wanna share some with our visitors? ;)
I wouldn’t call them
talents, but they are some things I really enjoy doing. Such
as taking photos, playing on my guitar or spending an endless
time cleaning my coins and discovering old books and ancient
scripts.
You recently published one of your latest books:
“Whispers” (which I got a signed copy of.. *hehe*).. Can you
tell us more about it?
Whispers was a dream I didn't
see coming; I always thought I would only publish my work on
my web site and maybe if I did a great effort it would be in a
newspaper or a magazine, but an actual poetry book.. that was
a big step for me. I started planning for Whispers
after I got many recommendations to collect my poetry in a
book that people would enjoy anytime in their lives. The book
has so many different kind of writings I wouldn't only call
poetry. Working on the book was a great experience for me, I
got the chance to have my writings edited and rated by so many
writers who helped me in picking the poems, choosing the best
design and finally handing it to the publishing house. I
enjoyed working on Whispers... and to me, its more than just a
bunch of paper that holds words I wrote. Whispers speak
for itself.
You are also planning to publish another book,
that tells an interesting real story about an Italian man.
Actually you are kind of re-writing his real journal.. can you
tell us more about that?
Silent
Vows is based on a true
story about a prisoner called Andre' Ange'li who ends
up paying his life for a crime he never did. This might sound
like a story you read before, but the interesting part is
that.. Andre' actually wrote about every day he lived
in his cell in so many details you can't imagine. I can't say
more about the his story, but I can tell you that to be able
to write his story I got the chance to look at his actual
writings, his last pictures.. video versions of his trial and
the letters he shared with his Julie'. In Silent
Vows, I will do all I can to turn Andre' memory to
an image, and this image to a voice to let the world hear how
cruel life can be and how some humans don’t have mercy on
their own race.
Inshallah there is a bright future ahead of
you.. what are your plans for it? Any upcoming projects? Need
to spill some beans in here with us?
;D
Beside the Silent
Vows that I'm working on; I got a production company
interested in my writing Seven Men, which will be used
for a musical play and they need me to write them the musical
script for the play. Also, I'm working on a new web site that
would actually bemore like a source for talented people either in Music
or Art in general.
Any advice you would like to give for those who
want to follow the same path that you
followed..?
Always remember that.. the words you speak holds the
soul you have and... what is written without effort, is rarely
read with pleasure.
*Thank
you UAEspirit for this interesting interview.. Its been a
pleasure having you under the spotlight!
;)
