Look beyond what you see...

Emirati Expressions

mood: Full of 7nan =p
craving: THAT road trip ;)

Set in a sophisticated black hall in Emirates Palace, beautiful & extremely creative pieces from various Emirati artists shine out, each unique in its own sense, expressing the personality of the master behind it..

The Emirati Expressions exhibition is a MUST visit for everyone.. & there is no excuse for not going since it will be running till 16th of April 2009!

Ofcourse the exhibition wouldnt be complete without my talented, Dubaiian best friend Raghda.. who always thinks out of the box & put her fab photography into light boxes.. ;)

Too bad though, the organizors didn’t think ‘out of the box’ & placed her precious light boxes on the floor I nearly stepped on them =p looool

No seriously, we WILL find a solution for this Ragzy.. *hugs*

More beautiful artwork.. I couldnt not fall in love..

Yaaay.. I was happy to see Salem’s work up there too.. *way to go Liltooth!* =B

I bumped into alot of friends and people I know.. but one of the cutest was the soon-mother-to-be Manal with her ADORABLE baby bump! *awwww*.. & YES, I told you I will post it! *evil laugh*

A long round of applause for all the artists who not only fascinated us by their amazing work, but for making us proud of the local talent! =D

final whisper: Love ya Ragzy foreva & eva.. xo

I agree, Emirati Expressions was excellent and I was really happy with the high quality art that was being displayed. And I hope everyone realizes my hands are not normally that fat-apparently all pregnant women get fat hands and feet! :-p

I am sorry but I thought this show was really weak. I mean what’s up with the photographs of the rose or the painting of the googly eyes? This is like a college student show not a platform for the best of Emirati art. The curator needed to be more selective. There was a lot of politics involved in this show and I think there were a lot of vanity projects. If the UAE wants to be taken seriously in terms of art they need to get proper curators to need to commission engaging work from artists who either push the boundaries of their mediums or think about the issues in the UAE instead of just putting up a hodge podge of Emirati art.
And before people jump down my throat for being a sour-puss, please understand that art criticism is vital to any emerging scene. If we all go on about how great the art is then we accomplish nothing. We need to push the artists to try harder. This is how you build a thriving art scene by talking about the art, why it works why it doesn’t. I think its great that the government is encouraging Emiratis to pursue art but I think sometimes its better when you have to struggle a bit more to be shown.

I know you probably won’t agree with me, but so be it.

Please take this with all the best intentions.
    Lin
